About Bison
In 1492 it is estimated that 60 million bison roamed North America. By 1890, that number was less than 1,000 due to the increased demand of bison for food, clothing and shelter. Private ranchers from across the Great Plains began to gather up the remaining bison and their efforts prevented the extinction of the species. Today, thanks to our ranchers, producers and industry colleagues we have been able to dramatically reverse the trend, and share more bison with more people. The result is one of the greatest conservation stories in history!
